Setting the stage as the total flooring solutions specialist

The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) is one of the largest industrial trade shows in the world, featuring 1,900 exhibitors and 100,000 visitors. As the countdown continues and the clock ticks down to show time, the Brumark team is hard at work installing exhibit flooring in booths being set up in Chicago’s famous McCormick Place.

It’s all in a day’s work for Brumark. For more than 30 years, the Atlanta-based company has been the single stop for total flooring solutions, committed to delivering innovative, creative and cost-effective flooring for the exhibit and event industry. Brumark’s trusted BruCrew is on the ground, collaborating with the industry’s best design firms to set the stage for hundreds of events across the country, from Comic-Con to high-end automobile shows.

“We’re involved in projects for many of the trade shows going on across the U.S.,” reveals Dave Walens, president and CEO of Brumark. “We provide flooring for every kind of event across the board, from B2B events like Google I/O to B2C events like The Marvel Experience. We’re currently working on a wide variety of trade show and event flooring projects, including projects for Dreamforce ‘14 in San Francisco.”

Accelerated growth through more complete solutions

Brumark first entered the exhibit and event flooring industry in 1983 when Bruce and Marge Korver founded the company, but the majority of its growth has occurred over the last 15 years. Walens purchased Brumark in 1999, after launching his own exhibit company at just 21 years old.

“Brumark was originally a vendor for my exhibit company,” recalls Walens. “In 1999, I purchased Brumark from the Korvers under Exploring Inc., the parent company, but we still do business as Brumark; they’re one in the same.”

When Walens stepped in, he saw an opportunity to transform Brumark’s business model, transforming the company into a total flooring solutions provider. “In 1983, the majority of work was just carpet; everything was done as black, red or blue flooring,” he says. “Now, we’re able to do inlays and logos; we can custom dye carpet and we offer flex flooring that provides the look and feel of wood, tile and stone, but performs like carpet. We’ve added a multitude of new products and services.”

Since 1999, the company has made many line and product additions in order to bring customers more convenient and innovative solutions and ideas that make their jobs easier. “We changed the dimension of flooring from an afterthought to a very primary part of the design itself,” Walens details.

This fundamental shift has certainly paid off. Since acquiring Brumark, Walens has managed to grow the company tenfold, landing a spot on Inc. Magazine’s 2014 Inc. 500|5,000 annual list of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. This is the fourth time the company has made the list. “We’re 10-times the size now with this different approach,” Walens shares.

“We couldn’t have achieved this honor for the fourth year without the support of our valued clients and employees,” continues Walens. “We have the best customers, and want to sincerely thank our loyal customers whose support has helped make this milestone possible. It also takes a true team to make this happen, and we have the best team working to support each other and our customers.”

Today, Brumark employs a rapidly expanding team, performing in-house manufacturing, personalized project consultation and expert installation nationwide. The company is headquartered in Atlanta with a fabrication facility in Dalton, Ga., known as the Carpet Capital of the World. Brumark also has a complete warehouse and distribution facility in Las Vegas.


Any design, any budget

Brumark’s flooring specialists help drive custom-fit solutions from design to completion, on any budget. From portable flooring and raised flooring to specialty carpet, carpet bags and other accessories, Brumark offers a wide range of innovative and award-winning options. The company is also capable of fast turnarounds on special services, such as custom dyeing and custom logo and sculpted carpet.

“We partner with exhibit and event design and production companies that design the space,” Walens details. “We work with them to select the right flooring products for the design specification and floor use. Brumark handles all types of projects, from small carpet and FlexFloor projects to large custom-fabricated flooring work, all in a fast-paced, timeline-sensitive environment. We’re completely focused on being the true total flooring solutions provider for our customers on every project, from the initial concept through to expert, on-time installation.”
