For more than 30 years George and Swede Sales & Service Inc. (G & S) has provided western New York with construction equipment sales and rentals. As a full-service dealership, G & S stocks a wide variety of parts and rentals in addition to sales and service departments that cover 17 counties throughout the state. From excavators to tractors, both new and used, G & S has the equipment to get the job done right.

G & S was founded in 1983, and although the ownership has changed hands over the years, the company remains committed to customers and quality service. “When I first came to G & S 15 years ago, the company was owned by Mike Doyle and Darryl Swede,” recalls Greg Newell, president of G & S. “In 2006 my current partner, Mike Whalen, bought out Darryl Swede and five years later I purchased the rest of the company shares.”

Superior Sales & Service

Newell reveals that many of the company’s core employees have remained at G & S over the years. “In the past we had between two and three salespeople; now we have four salespeople with a total staff of 15,” shares Newell. “We’re covering more territory and our product line has expanded; however, we still hold onto our original suppliers such as Hyundai, Link Belt, Kawasaki and Interstate Trailers. We’ve recently added McCormick Tractors and LS Tractors, as well.”

G & S also offers Hyundai, Kawasaki and Yanmar wheel loaders and excavators, Link Belt excavators and Interstate trailers. The company also lists a variety of used equipment and attachments, including quality used excavators, wheel loaders, air compressors, aggregate equipment such as screens, compactors, dozers, sweepers and broom equipment.

“Our Web presence has allowed us to expand our territory to an international level,” reveals Newell. “Lists of our entire new and used inventory are right at the click of a button online. We can also assist with financing and freight for all purchases. It’s about making the experience easier for the customer.”

The company backs its sales with a strong service department. “We have service trucks that are ready and available to repair any equipment, whether our customers have purchased from us or not,” adds Newell.

Staying Small & Showing Support

While G & S has grown its staff and product lines, Newell admits the company continues to focus on remaining a small, family-oriented atmosphere and workplace. “What sets us apart from our competitors is that we’re a small company with a family environment,” he says. “Because of this, the relationships we have between salespeople and customers do not end at that. Our parts and service departments have also built close relationships with clients by doing things few others can offer and making our products and services assets.”

G & S extends its family focus beyond the workplace and into the community. “We support the local 4H clubs, National FFA Organization and volunteer fire departments,” shares Newell. “We also sponsor many local youth athletic programs; because our customers have family’s involved with these teams on these teams. It’s about showing our support.”

On July 25, 2013, the G & S team will host an annual open house where staff, customers and the community can meet and greet. “We’re excited to have a lunch that will feature BBQ pig roast with corn and other side dishes,” details Newell. “Our entire staff, along with representatives from all of our equipment lines will be on hand to assist customers with questions and concerns. To help spread the word we’ll also have a live radio broadcast on-site.”

Newell admits by investing in the community the success comes back around to boost business, especially in tough economic times. “As a result of the economy, our manufactures are pleased with our performance and are now offering new inventory and new products as in the past,” he says. “We have a high turnover rate of on-hand now equipment, and are still things are picking up.”

For over 30 years G & S has supported the community with excellent parts, rentals, sales and service.
